If there was anything Lancaster needed next month, it was a mix of unmissable music and Brazilian street food.
It’s an undeniable truth that music has the power to bring us together, the rhythm, the lyrics and the acoustics create a perfect world where we can relax and lose ourselves to the beat. So, I sure I don’t speak for just me when I express my excitement for Lancarnaval next month. On Saturday 23rd April, Lancaster will be overrun with African Music, Bass Music, Big Band, Latin, and World Music.
DJs including Hannah O’Gorman, Pablo Blanquito and Naomi Carole will be performing throughout the night alongside Ms. Puerto Rico, La Presidenta, who has been providing tropical warmth on our radio waves for the last 10 years. But wait. There’s more. Batala Lancaster, in collaboration with Northbound Dance, will also be making an appearance. All these acts will be performing at Kanteena.
As well as all these incredible performances, spectators will also have the opportunity to join sessions teaching Capoeira, a cultural afro-Brazilian expression that includes martial arts, dance, music, acrobatics and much more.
Lancarnaval also encourages costumes, though not mandatory, from all its attendees. During the day, there will also be face printing who anyone who wants to it. Is it really a carnival without face paint?
Lancarnaval is set to start at 3pm and continue through till 2am in both the indoor and outdoor space of Kanteena. Under aged individuals will have to be accompanied by an adult at all times and will only be allowed until 11:00 pm.
Lancarnaval’s staff will also be following the local authorities’ COVID-19 protocols. There will be hand gel available on site at all times and in order to guarantee physical distance individual seating and standing areas will be available.
